Review: Luna Sol Selection De Chocolat Eyes

Hi, all you glam beauties!  I hope you’re all doing well and keeping healthy.  It is a gorgeous day today and I can’t wait to go get some sunshine!  Is it warm where you are?!

So who doesn’t love a good Brown Smokey Eye right?!  I  know I do, I pretty much wear neutrals all year long!  With that being said I was really excited to try the new Luna Sol Selection De Chocolat Eyes palette, since they rank within the top 5 on @Cosme a Japanese cosmetic ranking site!  Well, actually they’re not new, they’re part of the Autumn 2015 collection but I just purchased it recently so I guess it’s a new product for me.

Luna Sol is a higher end line from the Japanese Brand Kanebo.  The eyeshadow palettes come in duos or quads and I got one of the quads.  There are 4  quad palettes, 01 Chocolat Blanc, 02 Chocolat Amer, 03 Chocolat Raisin and EX01 Chocolat Noir but it’s limited to where you can get the last one EX01.  I believe only 2 stores in Japan carry them.  I picked up 03 Chocolat Raisin because it was a cool tone Brown palette with a Mauvy Taupe shade as well.

The packaging is classy and elegant.  Each eyeshadow has Luna Sol embossed on them and the palette smells like chocolate too, so sweet!  The colors are very pretty but unfortunately the pigmentation was not great at all.  When you swatch it on your arms with your fingers, the eyeshadows are buttery and the colors show up quite well but when you use a brush to apply them, the colors don’t really show up.  The first couple of times I used it, I was really disappointed because I was trying to do a daytime smokey eye and all I got was a soft natural look.  I guess it would’ve been okay if that’s the look I was going for but it was no where near smokey.  I still didn’t want to give up on this palette, so I decided to give it one more try.  This time I packed on the eyeshadows and did very little blending so the colors showed up a lot more.  The eyeshadows lasted more than a few hours but creases every time and that’s using it with a primer underneath.  I just don’t think it’s worth the 5000yen!

Each palette is around 5000yen for 5.5g

Here’s the look I created using this palette.

I used:

A all over the lid to the crease

D on the outer third

C in the crease to blend the colors

A on the lower lids

B in the inner corner top and bottom & a little on the brow bone
