Review: Koh Gen Do MAIFANSHI Aqua Foundation

As I get older, I find myself leaning towards foundations that give me that dewy, healthy, natural glow and right now I have been loving Koh Gen Do’s Maifanshi Aqua Foundation!  This has been a super raved about foundation and I don’t know why I waited so long to try this, it’s been my favourite & go to foundation all summer.  Celebrities like Jessica Alba and many many Makeup Artists have raved about this foundation and the brand itself.  It’s been used on many film sets as well.

Koh Gen Do is a Japanese Brand, that originally started creating natural skincare & makeup for a Japanese Actress who was concerned about wearing heavy makeup on sets for long hours and wanted products that would nourish the skin and not put stress on it.  This brand focuses on creating beautiful makeup & skincare using natural ingredients and no harsh chemicals.  It is free of synthetic pigments, mineral oils, parabens, alcohol or fragrance. My favourite type of brand!  They create makeup that feels like it’s treating your skin rather than putting pressure on the skin.

The foundation comes in 7 different shades and I got it 013.  It is a liquid foundation and it comes in a glass bottle with a pump, which makes it very hygienic and clean to use.

Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation is watery in texture and is light to medium coverage.  I loved this foundation, the moment I put it on.  With the shea butter, jojoba oil, squalene and other fabulous ingredients, it felt more like putting on skincare, so light and moisturizing.  I use a flat kabuki brush to apply the foundation and it blends out nice and smooth.  I finish it off with Chacott For Professionals Finishing Powder (amazing powder) you can read the review here, if you haven’t already or with Laura Mercier’s Translucent Powder.  Aqua foundation covers just enough without it looking cakey and gives the most natural flawless finish.  It’s your skin but 100 times better!  It also has SPF 25 PA++.

I wore this foundation all summer long (with & without a primer) and at the end of a hot humid day it was still on my face (without touch ups), amazing stuff!  No wonder Makeup Artists use it on film sets, the longevity is wonderful.  I didn’t get any flakey dry or oily spots anywhere, it kept my face dewy all day.  I found my T-zone a little oily but I naturally have an oily T-zone, so I don’t think it’s the foundation.  Nothing a little blotting won’t fix!

I really enjoy using this foundation and really have nothing bad to say about it.  Give it a try, if you’re in the market for a new foundation or just love trying different ones out!!

It’s around 4,968 yen for 30 ml.  The one I got, came with a bonus 10 ml (perfect travel size) & a sponge.
